About the Garden

The Fessenden Community Service Garden

Why a Community Service Garden?

There are so many reasons to build a school garden. Hereare just a few:

* A school garden provides hands-on learning experiences for any academic subject
… science, math, history, language arts, etc. The teachers at Fessenden are excited
about incorporating the garden into their academic curricula.

* The garden will help the boys learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It will
further educate them about food, health and the environment.

* The garden will provide many opportunities for the boys to work together
toward a common goal. Through this, they will develop a sense of ownership and
responsibility.

Where are we in the Process?

Thanks to the combined efforts of Parterre Garden Services, Bartlett Tree Experts
and R.P. Marzilli Landscape Contractors, we are preparing the garden site for
planting. The aforementioned companies have donated their time and services to
help Fessenden accomplish this goal. They have done an outstanding job and we
can’t thank them enough for all of their help!

What are we planting?

We are starting with the following items:

Peas
Carrots
Lettuce
Brussel Sprouts
Arugula
Endive
Cabbage
Pumpkin
Cucumber
Eggplant

Herbs

We hope to see the “fruits” of our labor by Fall.
